Cynetia (Sih-net-tee-yuh 🔈) is a country in the world of Kelais. It is known for its dense pine forests, winding and rapid-filled rivers, towering mountains, smooth and rocky coasts, and a wonderful culture in multiple towns. Cynetia lies around the 45th parallel, making the climate mostly a warm-summer Mediterranean climate. Cynetia's temperature range can typically compare in real life to western Oregon in the United States. The coasts are typically mild, and the mainland has a wide range in temperature, seeing dangerously hot days in the summer, and below freezing days in the winter.

Cynetia is diverse in multiple cultures, with the west coast being rainy, windy, and full of the native populations. The south coast is a little sunnier and is known for being the sources of the grand rivers. The rivers go up and form a plentiful valley full of cities, and ending in the mountains with ski resorts and scenic trains. The east side is mostly a dry valley with failed industrial towns, but despite the declining population leaving for the western cities, the east has its own charm as well. All of Cynetia has different things to offer, good or bad, so at first, it may seem tough to find a place to live there. This is what the residents love about the country and all it has to offer.

History

Pre-Cynetia and Formation (before 1600)

Cynetia was mostly undiscovered land, except of the native tribes that lived there. The Siluk, the Kotakett, Matorians, and the Gargolians. The Siluk and Matorians are the only ones still prevalent, with the Siluk merging with other tribes and becoming the modern Cynetian. The Kotakett, which lived in the province of Grand Rivers, has only 16,564 people left, and the Gargolians are considered extinct. Settlers took over the land and seized power. This, of course, made the natives unhappy. They fought long wars and battles. On June 1st, 1497, the natives established the Republic of Kinetia. After multiple protests and battles, they all came to an agreement on April 26, 1506, and established the Republic of Cynetia. Most of the tensions with the natives were fading away, but the damage was not.

Tensions with the natives were still prevalent, as seen with the Battle of Reservotar. Many tribes were still unhappy with the name change from Kinetia to Cynetia, so on October 26th, 1522, tribes shot arrows at an Englishman who died on impact, miles from the mouth of the Siluk River. Hearing the screams, more settlers came over. They shot guns at the tribes, and the tribes fought back. One incident occurred when a native stole a gun directly from a settler's hands and shot him in the back of his head. 46 people died in this incident.

The Kill on Siluk Hills happened on November 5th, 1522. A settler shot a native in the back of the head, and armies were called on each side. As soon as the native was shot, the native "general," Chief Buktasik, helped his "soldiers" seize guns, and learned from some willing to help. Some Anglese settlers also disguised in large cloaks and sold weapons to both sides. The native tribes ended up using the settlers' own technology against them, leading to their win of the battle. The stone fortress made by settlers was destroyed, and after 34 settlers, and 25 natives died, they agreed on a ceasefire, and hoped to have peaceful relations in future years. Of course, this didn't always come, as explained in the history of Zilaos, which is a city that was made due to a religious conflict between the natives and the settlers. After these battles, there were also genocides led by the Anglese on several tribes. The Gargolians from the Drivore area completely died out, and the Kotakett significantly shrunk.

Cynetia Grows (1600-1799)

As early as 1759, Cynetian provinces tried to fight against slavery. As Zhomese, Masa, and even native Cynetian people were used as slaves, some provinces decided they were tired of it. On July 15th, 1759, the Untru Siluk and Siluk provinces abolished slavery, making it illegal in any part of those provinces. These provinces were the first to do so, and they started an entire movement against slavery. Not too long after, on April 6th, 1760, Bari and the province of Grand Rivers abolished it as well. On September 5th, 1779, Duoria and the former province of Kindport soon followed. On October 5th, 1799, as soon as Burnabia split, the Eastern half decided to abolish slavery as well, and on November 6th, 1800, the Drivore area decided to abolish any slavery acts within the capital area. These were the only provinces to exclusively abolish it, but on March 25th, 1806, Cynetia abolished slavery for the entire country. However, this didn't stop people from owning them illegally, most famously the founder of Janson.

In 1794, Cynetia went to war with Mastistan. Then a dictatorship, Cynetia lightly told them to stop, but after multiple times of refusal, Cynetia warned Mastistan. After this, Mastistan responded by sending soldiers into Riverbend for the first battle, on August 4th, 1794. Ten Cynetians died, and six Mastistani died. This was shocking for Cynetia, and they had to jump into action. Not much other notable battles happened since then, but on October 25th, 1794, the Jesova massacre happened. Cynetia cited "extreme revenge" for the cause of this. The city of Jesova, then capital of Mastistan, was met with rifles and swords by Cynetians, and 124 Mastistani died. In turn, 87 Cynetians died. In the present, Cynetia acknowledges this incident and wishes it would never happen again. Every October 25th, Cynetia sends gifts to Mastistan. The next notable battle was the Battle of Drivore, on December 10th, 1794. Mastistani rushed to the capital during the war and opened fire on Cynetians. In turn, this came out with 103 people dying on Cynetia's side, and 24 dying on Mastistan's side. This was the worst battle loss in Cynetian history. An army base camp was built in Chapitale, just north of Drivore, because of this battle. The army base has brought significant growth to Drivore, and ever since that battle, Cynetia jumped into action to win the war. Cynetia's successful battle was on January 7th, 1795. Cynetian soldiers marched to the town of Ghanesti to fight soldiers waiting for them. Despite the preparation of the Mastistani, the battle ultimately went to the Cynetians, with only 17 Cynetians dying, and 56 Mastistani dying. This was enough for Mastistan to surrender. They agreed to loosen up their government by just a bit, and not partake in war with Cynetia for at least fifty years. The Mastistan dictatorship collapsed on March 13th, 1804, and Mastistan and Cynetia never went to war ever from that point on. Cynetia, however, has aided in the Kelais No-Peace Period in the 1940s and 1950s. Mastistan is now a common importer and exporter in Cynetia. A common Mastistani brand popular in Cynetia is Mawpolitan Juice Co., a juice supplier based in Mawpolitia, Barnaskett, Mastistan.

The Railroad Days (1800-1899)

As the Cynetian-Mastistan war ended, and Mastistan's dictatorship fell in 1804, Cynetia was starting to boom in industry, especially in the 1830s with the introduction of railroads.

In the 1830s, railroads were discovered as a form of transport. As soon as it was discovered, it became revolutionary in Cynetia, and a regular form of transport, but while Cynetia has some of the most efficient railroads in the present day, Cynetian railroads in the 1800s were known to be dangerous and unstable. "Only true mindless men go on the tracks. It was always the lowest of class, the smoothest of brains, or in many cases, the most desperate and reliant human beings in the country. Why, you could convince me in over 57 ways on why I need to take these railroads, and there would still be no way I'd do it." read an except in 1831. The excerpt became recognized in the 1840 book "Stories on the Tracks," by Benny Reedman.

On February 14th, 1830, the first railroad was completed from Drivore to Riverton. This was a popular railroad, especially for Rivertonian politicians heading to Drivore. Due to its popularity and demand, however, it often got crowded, and had barely any time for inspections. More train drivers also came in. Some say Cynetians would play a game to see what driver they would get, and would consider certain ones "winners and losers," due to variety in experience and education. However, these additions came at a great cost.

On April 2nd, 1830, a Friday, it was the early morning, and multiple people were ready to board from Riverton to Drivore. It was raining surprisingly hard the night before. The train appeared to ride smoothly, until the curve, when all of a sudden, the driver, who went too fast on the curve, tipped the train, and 14 people died. This was a shocking stop for Cynetians, and the railroad had to be closed, it declined in popularity too, but they weren't going to give up, and Cynetia had completed most rail lines in the country by August 3rd, 1839. The last railroad line to be completed was the Invetie-Taxí line.

Fire in Balamarecshe. One of the oldest photos in Cynetian History.

On March 15th, 1845, Balamarecshe was hit with a large fire coming from a furnace failure. It spread all around town and to the forests, heading towards the towns nearby, but it instead stopped three miles outside of the town, just barely spreading into the forest. 34 people died in the flames, and ever since, it is remembered as Balamarecshe's most infamous incident. There is a memorial to the town's fire victims called the "Memorial Under Ashes."

On December 1st, 1894, a passenger train was heading from Invetie to Taxí on the mountain rail line. The tracks had been iced, so advisories were set and they warned the driver to go slow, but the train was fifteen minutes late to the destination, Taxí, due to maintenance. Regardless, the driver decided to speed up to get on time, but on the railroad's curve, the train plunged off a cliffside and 67 people died. Because of this, it was the worst train disaster in Cynetian history. The driver survived, but was killed by a survivor of the wreck on December 5th. During his arrest, he said "His severe negligence and misconduct was a deliberate purposeful act. I had to step in and take the shot." Cynetia made the Train Security Act in response.

After the 1894 crash, Cynetia gained international attention. Cynetia vowed to improve the railroad system from there, hoping to invent new ways of making the tracks safe, and letting other countries borrow from Cynetia as well.

Modern History (1900-present)

Early Modernization (1900-1939)

On August 10th, 1918, a train with ten people and 26 horses inside was heading from Benaer to Alanera. The train left at approximately 8:00 PM. Less than halfway through, in between Balamarecshe and Borista, the horses were getting restless. The people inside were drinking alcohol and playing games, and the train driver joined in too. The train went too fast on a curve and went off the tracks. Four people died, and so did eleven horses. The other people and horses were eventually rescued and taken to Alanera by another train. This incident has prompted Cynetia to ban all alcohol use until 1924. From there, more secure tactics were suggested, such as adding "drinking permits" or raising the age to 28. The age was kept at 18 from then on.

The Process Continues (1940-1959)

On June 14th, 1941, a three story high building named the Claudere Building in central Drivore collapsed, injuring thirteen, and killing ten. The collapse occurred due to structural decay, caused by the bottom of the building constantly flooding for two decades, with no way found to fix it, and also its age, being built back in the 1870s. Only three people died and one person was injured. The building was eventually rebuilt in 1942, however, the building was poorly rebuilt and remodeled. On December 19th, 1958, the same building collapsed due to material error, structural misalignment, and blueprint misreading. Much like with the Burnabian Disaster in 1999, Cynetian law strengthened building checkup laws and sent criminal investigations regarding the local inspectors and engineers.[3][4]

On February 2nd, 1944, a man in Wysome, Cynetia was found to have the new (name) virus. He was held under high security, but before this, he had already been in contact with friends and family. In doing so, a breakout of the (name) virus was prevalent. All of the Drivore metropolitan area was put under lockdown on February 8th. The Drivore area closure was referred to as the "Big Bubble." The virus crossed over into the city of Lilend, and went down the river to the south coast and Matoria. Cynetia banned all air travel and rail travel in efforts to stop the pandemic, and minimized car travel. The pandemic spread onto the South Coast when a man and his family went on a road trip to Kindport from Drivore. He denied the pandemic was happening, and denied restrictions. He came back two days later, and died from the virus, while the rest of the family caught it, but did not die. A Kindport couple briefly visited Reservotar before the virus was known to be evident in the city, contaminating a few residents and putting the city under lockdown. WIP

On October 28th, 1948, a ship named the Barya Cuttstador arrived with military sent by Zhoma during the No-Peace Period. All of the passengers on board were given permission by the Cynetian government to hide out in Cynetian bases during the war. Armies from Moroku tracked the Zhomese ship and firebombed it with several aircraft by the time it was one mile south of Sahatsie. The ship caught on fire and suffered intensive damage, making it sink while burning. 876 out of the 950 soldiers on board were killed, and so was the ship's captain. The Morokese government and armies didn't find out about the governmental permissions given to Zhoma until the end of the war. Several witnesses saw the scene unfold from Sahatsie and pictures were taken. This was the worst maritime disaster in Cynetian history. Since then, the seas of Cynetia were highly monitored to prevent Morokese armies from interfering with Zhomese safety.

On May 15th, 1956, during rush hour, a fire broke out on the bottom of the Grand Crossing, a bridge in Riverton. Cars tried to back away and move forward, but couldn't due to the traffic. One car tried to do so, but crashed into three other cars, killing one, a 19-year old driver. The infant in the car survived. Police were called to arrive at the scene to investigate the crash, and fire trucks were called to put out the flames, but it was too late, and the bridge collapses, killing 28 people. This was one of the worst bridge collapses in Cynetian history. Since then, the bridge has been widened to accommodate for more traffic, and all Riverton bridges were under watch. On June 3rd, 1957, over a year after the infamous Grand Crossing collapse, a countryside bridge in Burnabia broke in a severe rain and wind storm with one person dying, the only one on the bridge. The Cynetian government made the Bridge Act in response. All bridges required a thorough inspection at least once a month, with structurally deficient bridges requiring it once every two weeks, and a restoration when needed. Some bridges failed to go through this, however, much like in the November 1999 Burnabian Disaster. Cynetia attempted to monitor this act even more thoroughly since then.

Unrest, Controversies, Shame (1960-1979)

In the 1960s, Cynetia had suffered national controversy over the high use of coal plants and polluting factories. At the same time, terrorism and gun murder was at a historical high. The first of these incidents happened on March 2nd, 1960. A local coffee shop in Borista, known as "Borista Roast" at the time, was damaged when a man broke a window with an axe, and threw a bomb inside. Immediately, customers were evacuated, and the bomb exploded about 20 seconds later. Two people died. One from explosive impact, and one from flying rubble. Cynetians were shook. "If it happened at a little coffee shop in Borista, it can happen anywhere," local resident, Barns Schoenwafer, said about the incident.

On March 14th, 1960, a supermarket in Drivore was shot up by a woman, killing eight people. Witnesses say she broke items with a hammer, knocked over disconnected shelves, and robbed cash registers. The woman, identified as Carmen Burgortes of Wysome, was arrested and put on death row, as capital punishment was legal back then. This was when Cynetians really started to suspect something wasn't right, and this upcoming string of events wasn't normal.

Multiple other events happened. By March 22nd, a party in Lilend was shot up and one person died. On April 1st, the "Funny Festival," a celebration held every April 1st in Riverbend was shot up and six people died. And on April 7th, there was an attempted bombing at a Gillingham hotel. Cynetians requested the government did something about it. The government was stumped and in a panic. They tried to enforce capital punishment to become stricter and more intense, but it didn't help all too much, and suicide-related terror incidents started to rise.

At the same time, coal power was also on the rise in Cynetia, and so were polluting factories. Eastern Cynetia took advantage of these factories, and Coteran, the Drivore area, the province of Grand Rivers, and Matoria were polluted with coal plants. Other countries took notice and told Cynetia to stop, but the government simply denied the offer. Mastistan, who has had "great" relations with Cynetia since the dictatorship fell in 1804, notably dropped their Cynetian relations to "Slightly Negative."

With the sudden uptick of crime in the 1960s, a new mystery emerged on December 8th, 1960. Mark and Ellie Canby, a couple that got married in 1957, were found dead in their home in rural Holanar, a community in the northern Cynetian mountains southwest of Ekalofedis. Police were called to the scene of horror. The floors and walls were painted with blood, the bathroom was destroyed, and the chandelier in their large home was now broken and on the floor. On top of that, bookshelves were knocked over, the balcony's guard rails were smashed, their bed was torn apart, and most of the walls had scratch marks. News became national due to the terrifying and violent nature of this murder. What was once an expensive house with a breathtaking view of the mountains and a happy couple was now destroyed, and the couple was gone from their home. Pictures spread like wildfire, locals of Holanar and surrounding Ekalofedis were horrified, and there didn't seem to be enough details on the way.

The Cynetian Investigative Force of Crime (CIFC) took some of the evidence to their rooms and attempted to piece everything together, but it still couldn't make sense. By the 20th, the CIFC decided to go back to the scene of the crime. There, they found messages scrawled on the walls with permanent marker. "(Translated) Cynetia's heart aches for you." "(Translated) True love never dies." Further examination of the scene and the bodies indicated that knives and hammers were used in the attack from the markings and stains. The bloody walls appeared to be painted by human hands. The CIFC had an idea of what happened, they just didn't know who did it. On January 2nd, 1961, the CIFC released the details of the crime and that they were still looking for the suspect behind it all. After doing so, officer Rob Keith was sent a threat by personal letter that night. "Don't carry through with this. Don't do anything else. Terrible things will happen to you and those you love."

In June 1964, during the new election, the leader that was elected in June 1960, Boresh Gingham, was re-elected. In Cynetia's biggest political controversy, multiple people accused Boresh of rigging the election, mostly people advocating for a cleaner Cynetia.

On July 3rd, 1966, six people were found dead and with gunshot wounds in a light blue car in a residential neighborhood of Matoria City. This remained a mystery, but on October 7th, 1975, Fern Dess was suspected and arrested, up for trial. He was put up for trial on May 6th, 1976. Fern Dess was then convicted as guilty, and up for capital punishment. He was put on death row and killed on May 23rd. Before he was, he allegedly yelled "I didn't do it," and sobbed. In July, however, new evidence was found against the possibility of Dess murdering those six. It was even theorized that the people inside committed a mass-suicide. The theory stated that one person shot everyone in the car, and then themself, but it is unclear which person that may have been. Protests started outside the Cynetian capitol in Drivore over this incident, and it escalated into riots. The most common message used in the protests was "We don't stand for ignorance!" The windows of the capitol were broken, and 11 were injured, with one person even dying from a gunshot, before police came to break it up. On February 9th, 1977, Camas Frohnmayer announced that the Cynetian government decided against capital punishment being legal.

April 23rd, 1972 marked a day known as the Modern Cynetian Overseas Battle. Before that day, two Cynetian gangs infamous in the Kindport area known as the Hood Rascals and the Rib Cagers agreed to meet on the same cruise heading from Kindport to Islas Cian, tropical islands on the Equator to the south. They brought guns and knives aboard the ship and prepared for battle. As the ship was nineteen kilometers (twelve miles) south of Kindport, the two gangs prepared for battle aboard the ship. Other passengers started to run away as a member of the Rib Cagers shot at a Hood Rascal, killing him. They fought more and thirteen more died, then the Rib Cagers attacked the captain of the ship with hammers, knives, and killed him with a final shot. The Hood Rascals took over the ship and steered it back towards Kindport when one of the members punctured the bottom of the ship, sinking it. More passengers frantically attempted to escape the sinking ship, and 58 more died in the crash, bringing the total to 72 casualties, with just 32 survivors, many in critical condition.

On July 12th, 1975, on the streets of Eastern Drivore, Liam Hartford crashed his car into a large weak tree in a residential neighborhood. The tree then fell onto a smaller tree, keeping it stable. Escaping with minor injuries, emergency crews arrived to tow his car and review the wreckage. Before they started removing the tree, a sudden wind gust blew the small tree enough to knock the larger one out of place, crushing the smaller tree and landing on the Eastern Drivore Research Center's electrical box. The crews then attempted to put out the fire when one by the name of John Loring placed his shovel into the ground where a pipeline was covered by a thin layer of dirt. The scene was somewhat flooded, and after the fire was put out, Loring was reportedly beaten by the other firefighters around him. The fire also weakened the ground and pipeline underneath it, making it structurally worse. The pipeline went directly above the research center's basement, which was home to dangerous chemicals (these will be specified later on with further research). The chemicals mixed in with the water, which was running out quickly, causing a shortage in the neighborhood, and a flood in the basement. These chemicals, knocked over by the flood, mixed in and started to flood the streets. The flood reached a closeby gas station, which exploded due to the reactionary chemicals, killing one woman who was filling up her car with gas. The explosion caused a terrible fire which spread across a field and seven homes, two people escaping with serious injuries. One distressed resident, Lena Williams, panicked and drove away, crashing into a truck from Reservotar Cheese that was carrying cheese packages and little milk cartons, covering the road in milk. In response to the gas explosion, power shut off in Eastern Drivore, but the city government didn't warn nearby power stations. These power stations attempted to supply the area with power, but the wires from utility poles couldn't handle the amount of power and sagged from overheating. The wires reached trees below and caused other power outages, and Drivore was eventually under a blackout.[5]

Coal plants were being taken out of Cynetia at an alarming rate, but Cynetia wasn't quite prepared with alternatives yet. April 13th, 1978 marked the day the nationwide economic crash started to show, also known as the Cynetian Blackout. By that day, 7.56% of the population was unemployed. By May 1st, 11.32% were unemployed. Cynetian residents begged then president, Camas Frohnmayer, to stop this. Frohnmayer did not comply, as he was focused on Cynetia's environment. Unemployed environmentalists were complaining especially, as Frohnmayer couldn't take his time in the mass demolition. On May 5th, 1978, Cynetians protested outside the Cynetian capitol in Drivore. Late May, Mid-June, and Mid-July had violent days, especially due to some of the protestors denying climate change, and the environmentalists getting mad. This was one of the biggest protests in Cynetian history, and Camas Frohnmayer was named the second most controversial president in Cynetian history, after Boresh Gingham. These protests lasted all the way until the end of the crash on August 12th.

Rebirth and Regrowth (1980-1999)

By the 1980s, all coal plants in Cynetia were replaced and demolished. Most factories were left deserted, which hurt Eastern Cynetia, a region that made most of their money off of factory work. The 1980s also marked the end of the mass crime periods in Cynetia during the 60s and 70s. Cynetia was once infamous for their ignorance to the environment, and terrorism problems, and now famed as a wonderful country again. Cynetia went from a highly polluted country with murder happening all the time, to one of the most eco-friendly and safe countries in Kelais. Even though the 1980s were a wonderful time for Cynetia, however, there still remained the lasting effects from the earlier decades.

On March 30th, 1980, a "Bring Back the Factories" protest started in Yibble. A group of people complained about losing jobs due to Cynetia's eco-friendly initiative. It started peaceful, but the group started to smash windows, chanting "If we can't have ours, you can't have yours." The protest got more violent when a yellow van with "Cool Kidz Back" in green lettering ran protesters over, injuring five and killing three.

In 1982, Cynetia both granted gay rights and simplified road signs. Both decisions had slight controversy. Eastern cities were particularly mad with this decision, and hung "take back your gays" as well as "learn OUR language" signs. People, such as renowned scientist, Lee Bosen, called these people out on public television. "See, the problem with these people is that they don't know what they're talking about. I mean, to start with, English is not Cynetia's native language."

On September 16th, 1986, the Greater Drivore Mall in Riverton was bombed on the north side. The bomb detonated at 11:56 AM on the second floor and immediately, windows were broken in shops nearby. The first victim, Kai Leson, died when he was crushed by an exploded pillar. The second and third victims, Bart Hinden and Tom Scale, were affected by explosive impact. The fourth victim, Sara Jailee, ran up to the fourth floor in panic and jumped off the balcony, killing herself. The fifth victim, Cara White, ran out of the mall to try to get help. She was shot fatally by the bomber in doing so. By 12:03, the City of Riverton went under an official lockdown that lasted for a full hour, as it was feared that the suspect ran into the city. As part of the procedures, signs were placed on major highways and freeways notifying people to avoid the city. The last thirteen victims were shot and bombed as they ran out the mall. In total, 18 people died, 36 people were injured, one dog died, and the damage cost $80M to repair. The north side was closed for six months, for construction and criminal investigation. This closure affected three small businesses that make most profits through that mall. The bomber, Shawn Dersin, was eventually arrested on October 4th, and was taken to the Burnabian Complex, a large prison eleven miles northwest of Ladin, infamous for housing Cynetia's most dangerous criminals. On January 7th, 1987, a visitor, Matthew Jailee, who was the husband of Sara Jailee, came to Shawn for "a friendly visit," only to shoot him fatally. Because of this, Cynetia increased the security of their prisons regarding prison visits. Matthew was jailed controversially, but escaped five months later to come back safely to his new girlfriend. Cynetia hasn't done anything about it, but since then, Matthew hasn't caused any other problems worthy of imprisonment.

It was a nice August morning in Middleton, Matoria. On August 17th, 1988, at approximately 7:46, multiple men, women, and children were getting onto the first morning train that ran from their Middleton to the closest major city, which is Xavier. They all got in and the train went on its way. Everything was going alright. The train had already made it halfway with no issues or consequences. Then suddenly, one crew member of the train loudly yelled for everyone to open the windows and jump out. Panic quickly spread, as no one understood what was happening. The train was suddenly taking on a lot speed. The train made it all the way to its destination but kept ongoing. The train continued racing faster and faster, until suddenly a loud gun shot was heard. Soon a crew member informed everyone the driver had shot himself, dying instantly. His last words were "the Matorians shall suffer no longer". The train continued racing for two more minutes, only getting faster, until finally, the overheated engine exploded, derailing the train instantly, causing some passengers onboard to die, and most to sustain major injuries. The train would then crash into a bank, finally stopping in its tracks, with a death count of around 37. The few survivors of the crash would later in detail explain everything to the police and news.[6]

On October 9th, 1992, a plane was heading from Drivore International Airport to Mastistan International Capital Airport in Jesova, Mastistan with 128 people on board. Another plane with just six on board was heading from Iles International Airport in Iles, Mastistan to Drivore International Airport. Above Eastern Cynetia, the paths of the two aircraft collided, but neither plane knew the other was coming, air traffic control stopped being able to communicate in the middle of each flight and no pilot knew it. In an unusual fog, the small plane punctured the left wing of the larger aircraft. The small plane was sent diving downwards, and it crashed into a field miles east of Ladin, killing all six. Meanwhile, the larger plane and its pilots were having a hard time trying to keep the plane safe and ready to land. For a long yet steady amount of time, the plane miraculously stayed afloat, but unfortunately, it crashed into the mountains of Western Mastistan, killing three crew members and 68 passengers. Since then, airport radars have been heavily improved, and so have general air traffic control systems.

"The Burnabian Disaster," part of the train lying on the collapsed bridge from the 1999 accident.

On November 22nd, 1999, a passenger train was heading from Riverbend to Yibble. Cynetia had just gone through an unusual storm outbreak. The train was trying to cross the Kings Railroad Bridge over the Yibble River as it was nearing the city of Yibble. The bridge was already labeled as structurally deficient, but the storms have bent some bars and ruined the tracks. The train derailed on the bridge on a bump impact from one of the tracks, and in doing so, hit the structure, causing the train and the bridge to go down. 17 people died. This crash made the Bridge Act of 1957 monitored even harder, as it was shown that the Kings Railroad Bridge wasn't properly inspected/restored by the Yibblite and Eastern Burnabian inspectors. The bridge was rebuilt on March 14th, 2001, but before this, railroad use from Yibble to Riverbend was affected heavily, with routes having to take an extra length, with routes either having to go from Riverbend to Invetie and loop back around to Yibble, or would have to take Mastistan railroads.

Cynetia Enters the 21st Century (2000-present)

On July 16th, 2002, a fire was set to a house in the countryside of Eastern Burnabia. In turn, a wildfire started, and it spread across, burning down the little communities of Ghenai, Burkas, and Iloves. The fires also approached Alanera and Yibble, ending there. Ten homes were burned in Alanera and 23 homes were burned in Yibble. 12 people died in the fires.

January 4th, 2003 marked the worst plane crash in Cynetia history. At approximately 8:52, a Cynetia Air model airplane was leaving the Drivore International Airport for the Kindport International Airport. It was a reportedly "stale" flight, according to the only survivor of the crash. "Everyone stood there like lawn gnomes. They had no emotion, nobody talked to each other or really did anything." At 9:15, the pilot noticed some slight engine failure. The pilot said, according to an announcement "We are experiencing slight engine problems, but do not worry, it is only minor, and we'll still arrive at the Kindport airport at our expected time. "This was the first time I saw emotion out of these people. They started talking to each other wondering if they were going to die." By 9:18 AM, the engine stopped, and the plane went down at full speed. It nosedived and plunged at speeds just under Mach 1, the speed of sound. The plane crashed into a little hill in between Heater and Wallosia, and 117 people died. Only one person, Dennis Rodney, survived, with severe injuries that affected him for the rest of his life. In the official investigation, it was found that the plane hadn't been refueled as it was supposed to be, and three workers at the Drivore International Airport were arrested following the crash.

Smoke at a countryside home during Orange August, August 7th, 2005.

On August 3rd, 2005, Orange August started. One of the worst wildfires in Cynetian history. It started in Coteran due to a lightning strike. It spread and caused damage in Wallosia, Curveside, and Ria. While all of the cities affected managed to rebuild quickly, 56 people died, and the populations in each one was highly affected. Wallosia was hit the hardest. Wallosia had the most damage and the population change declined from 2005-2007. Ria was being remodeled and remade already, so not much was affected in the city, and the population still managed to grow rapidly, except from 2005-2006, when it was nearly steady.

On January 19th, 2007, a small passenger train was heading from Kindport to Grand Rivers. It was a rainy day, the oceans were very treacherous at this time. A car, simultaneously, contains a family heading on a road trip from Rift City to Kindport. The train had just stopped in Sahatsie, when all of a sudden, the car slipped on the road onto the railroad, and the train struck it, killing all five family members inside. All of them included Bruce (39), Lana (37), Alina (11), Joe (8), and Nyssa Burgoseman (1). The train decided to keep going regardless, but eventually, on the curve, the car put too much force on the train for it to handle, dislodging it from the tracks, then the train plunged off a sea cliff into the ocean, killing all 25 on board. Despite this not being the deadliest crash in Cynetian history, this was considered the most brutal, and could have been far worse with the size of the train in the Taxí Mountains Train Crash. Cynetia made the Train Security Act stricter than ever due to this.

A stranded car in Sikkukat during the 2007 Great Siluk Floods.

Mid-February 2007 marked the Great Siluk Floods, which occurred from February 13th to February 19th. The provinces of Siluk, Bari, and Untru Siluk were majorly flooded. Reservotar, Sikkukat, and Moro suffered the most damage. Multiple residents had to navigate in boats. Some businesses were still attempting to be open. Notably, "Old John's General Store," in Sakali, opened business on a floating dock to keep residents thriving. Sakali is about fourteen miles north of Reservotar. Reservotar had 26 casualties, Moro had 15 casualties, and Sikkukat had seven. Additional casualties in other towns totaled five. It was one of the worst floods in Cynetian history.

On July 22nd, 2008, in the afternoon, the west wing of the Cynetian Capitol Building in Drivore caught fire after an overheated wire came in contact with some books in the Capitol Library. Multiple government officials, and then president, Thomas Senido, were evacuated as firefighters attempted to douse the flames. As the fire was just about put out, the roof of the Capitol Library suddenly collapsed, killing five firefighters. Eventually, the flames were put out, but the five firefighters and 48 books (seven of which had no other copies sold) were still at loss. The west wing wasn't rebuilt until September 2009, and this was some of the worst damage done to a Cynetian government building.

On March 7th, 2010, a fleet of five black cars crossed the eastern border with white signs reading "To the capital!" in red letters on top. When the cars made it to Riverbend, one of the drivers set off a small bomb underneath the bridge, severely injuring four parkgoers. They went through several corners and backstreets before going back on the highway, and driving more. Police caught up to this fleet and attempted to catch them. One of the cars crashed head on into one of the police cars, killing him and one of the officers inside. The other four cars kept going, another one going straight for a police car, but crashing into a purple electric car that was pushed towards the other police, killing one passenger inside the purple car and one inside the black car. The three black cars kept going and the police instead focused on whether or not the passenger in the purple car was okay. As the three remaining cars neared Gorginsk, a driver in another car threw a bomb out the window into a fast food restaurant. One person died at the scene. Police were called again, but the car drivers had one more chance to throw a bomb into Balero. They threw the bomb into a row of parallel parking, and two people had serious injuries, and a driver was preparing to throw another. One of the injured victims, John Redmond, ran towards the bomb-thrower as he was getting ready. He approached from behind, knocked out his bomb, and shot him to death with a pistol. The two other drivers bombed themselves in their own cars. In total, six died in the entire case.

On December 6th, 2011, in the freezing weather, forest management was examining a small patch of forest outside of the Coteran National Forest lands. A worker was stepping forward to examine a tree, which was next to a utility pole stylized as another tree. The worker climbed up the pine tree and saw a flashing red light. When he got closer to examine it, the tree suddenly exploded. The worker died and the other workers ran in panic. The top of the pine tree fell over and landed on the wires of the utility pole, igniting another explosion and snapping them apart. Three more workers died when bombs in the ground exploded as well. Some from impact, some from controlled detonation. This was considered an act of terrorism, but as of February 5th, 2022, Cynetian investigators could not find the criminal behind the attack.

On the night of July 2nd, 2013, a black limo was driving recklessly through Matoria City. The driver made sharp turns and maneuvers across several streets in the city. When it crashed at 90 miles per hour into a skyscraper, the driver, badly injured, escaped and stole a red truck with three people in it, ignoring the thirteen dead and two seriously injured inside the wrecked limo. He went through to the east towards Zilaos when police caught up to him not too long after. He attempted to evade them, but as they were getting close, he crashed the truck full-speed into a telephone pole, killing himself and the three inside the truck.

On August 25th, 2015, a man was seen on top of a skyscraper in Drivore. He was seen wearing a backpack, a strap on the front of his shirt, and the Cynetian flag on his back. People were telling him not to jump. He did, and made sure to fall front on the ground with his hands out. When he hit the ground, an explosion set off, causing damage and killing nine people. It was also one of the few terrorism incidents in Kelais to be filmed on cellphone video. After this incident, many people complained that Cynetian terrorism was on the rise, and needed action against it. February 2016 marked when the mayor of Drivore, John Fossman, increased security in multiple places to stop individuals from smuggling bombs and other deadly weapons. On August 25th, 2016, the memorial for this incident was finally opened, and 23,438 people were recorded to visit.

On May 4th, 2016, at approximately 16:23, a Banera supermarket in Riverton caught fire in a clothing aisle, and another fire appeared in the laundry detergent aisle, quickly spreading as people were evacuated. Some even looted the supermarket before leaving. A man was spotted running away from the scene of the fire. A brave worker, Liam Forworth attempted to tackle the man, and the two got into a fistfight, with the man breaking free and throwing a molotov cocktail at Liam, burning him to death. A shopgoer who stole a kitchen knife from an aisle out of fear also tackled the man and stabbed him to death. The roof then collapsed and trapped three people, miraculously surviving. Firefighters put out the flames and much the supermarket was in ruins. It was rebuilt by August 2017 and completely restructured to combat future problems. Security footage was released and it was confirmed that the man who ran from the scene was guilty of the crime. Banera closed all supermarket locations in the Drivore Metropolitan Area on May 5th.

On July 14th, 2017, a fire started due to a forested house fire in Smurifa. The fire spread across the pine trees to the city of Beltchain, where the forest ends. 20% of the city was burned down, which took a toll on people living in Beltchain. Eight people died, and they struggled to rebuild. With a lot of help, they got most buildings done by late 2019, but this did cause a population decline listed from 2010-2020. Much like Balamarecshe's fire, Beltchain made a memorial for this in 2018, called the "Memorial for Those Affected by Flame."

Fishing boat catches fire in Sillowawie

On February 5th, 2019, a fishing boat carrying two tons of dynamite caught fire on a beach near Sillowawie. Inspectors were called two minutes in, and after they saw the dynamite, it was determined to be too late to dispose of it. It exploded about four minutes in, and caused minor damage to two homes. As it is "just a fishing boat," the mayor of Sillowawie argued this was not an accident. It was proven to be purposeful terrorism later on. Many people have criticized the inspectors' actions and said it could have been avoided.

On April 20th, 2021,

On September 13th, 2021, after holding the Liner Reservoir on the Liner River, a tributary of the Great Matsul in the mountains of Cynetia, the Liner Dam broke apart due to structural failure from aging, missed inspections, and recent landslides occurring from terrible rainstorms in the mountains. The dam brought the reservoir with it and it neared Lake Banera, where the town of Ekalofedis lies. It flooded the little town of Liner, just 3,455 people, and caused extensive damage, and flooded parts of Ekalofedis as well. Ekalofedis was given a "water warning". The debris from the dam polluted the lake and penetrated some water pipes in the town. Because of this, it was feared the water would be dangerous and polluted. The dam's flood also broke off and made a temporary river, which made a fall of gray water pour into Lake Banera for a temporary amount of time. It was called "Debris Falls" by locals. The collapse and sudden lowering of the reservoir also revealed the old town of Manterin, which became a ghost town after plans to construct this reservoir. In 1977, before the dam was completed, residents of Manterin were told to leave. The town was abandoned in that very spot. The collapse of the Liner Dam revealed the remnants of Manterin, most half-covered by sediment. Historians used this to make maps of old Manterin and recreate what it used to look like, as not much pictures were taken of the town. Since the collapse, the dam is currently being rebuilt to withstand the elements much easier and the builders vow that it will receive constant inspections. Ekalofedis finished improving their water pipe system, but the town had to boil their own water until the winter. The town of Liner itself finished rebuilding on March 5th, 2022.

On March 10th, 2022, Melissa Borgartman announced that the Cynetian government was funding Eastern Cynetia to help their declining cities rebound. "Me and the rest of the Cynetian government have noticed that action could have been taken to help the cities out in the east. We now realize that no one for over 40 years has attempted to help out these places. Their decline is becoming infamous. Places like Ladin, Yibble, and Hivol are gaining a poor reputation and a poor atmosphere. They're riddled with crime and miserable lifestyle, especially regarding Ladin and Hivol. The places over there are becoming run down, unlike how they used to be before the economic crash. So it's time to fund these places. Funding will go to the declining major cities of the east, and to the provinces themselves." Before this speech was made in the morning, Riverbend was sent $2,000,000 to help out the city, Silivola was sent $1,750,000, Yibble was sent $750,000, and $500,000 was sent to Janson, Ladin, and Hivol. $500,000 was also sent to the collective provinces of Forales, Burnabia, Eastern Burnabia, and Smurfia each to spend on other towns in need, or as extra money for cities inside. The cities have been encouraged by the government to ask for extra donations from residents and the government itself, with the added warning that these funds must be used wisely and carefully.

Cities

Untru Siluk

Untru Siluk is a coastal province with a highly native culture. It is known as Fake Siluk to northern travelers. They went through the muddy Koke River, which makes up Cynetia's northern border, in hopes to get to Siluk, a marker on their way to greater land. When they got to the peninsula, they assumed it was Siluk, and stayed there. Heavy rainstorms, floods, and angry native people have caused miserable stays there. While Siluk also has heavy rainstorms and floods, Siluk had more famed civilizations, and was better prepared. The minimum wage is 500 Crycovars. The provincial animal is the golden eagle.

Moro

Description
History

Moro was established on April 5th, 1603. It was mostly made to make stops easier along the route to Reservotar. The only setback was that it lengthened the route to the Siluk province, but it was otherwise an ideal location, overlooking the Koke River mouth. It stayed a small place for very long, until March 23rd, 1667, when it was incorporated. It had 1,346 people at the time. Since then, its population mostly remained steady. By 1840, it did have 2,563 people. By 1960, it had 6,885. On January 26th, 1964, the Moro Long Bridge was built. Beforehand, there used to be ferries and bridges further east to cross the wide Koke River mouth. Moro has become a coastal port hub ever since, along with Reservotar, Consurve, Matoria City, Kindport, and Grand Rivers. The demand and growth rate went higher, but the only problem was Moro was getting full, and there wasn't much space to move to. In 2000, with a population of 34,543, the Morites realized this, and started making multiple new roads and houses to fit the needs of the people. However, the damage done in the 2007 Siluk Floods significantly halted this growth.

Facts
  • The real life parallel is Astoria, Oregon.
  • Moro is the local capital of Untru Siluk.
  • A Moro resident is called a "Morite," sometimes jokingly a "Moron."
  • The flag features the Moro Long Bridge, which is the 3rd longest bridge in Cynetia.

Siluk

Known for the Siluk people, Siluk is a staple province in Cynetia, known as a stop for travelers coming into Cynetia in history. Siluk province is known for the cold, rocky coasts, and rainy weather. The minimum wage is 520 Crycovars, except in Reservotar, where it is 550. The provincial animal is the harbor seal. The Siluk province is also one of the few autonomous areas in Cynetia.

Reservotar

Description

Reservotar is a coastal port in the Siluk state of Cynetia, known mostly for cheese production.

History

Reservotar is one of the oldest settlements in Cynetia, being established on March 13th, 1501. It was placed over the past native community of Geshin, which likely existed for at least a century prior. Settlers built stone and brick buildings, along with wooden homes. On May 2nd, 1526, Reservotar was finally incorporated. It has 1,096 people at the time. Reservotar was still not much of a town, with not a lot of industry. Settlers coming from other countries found cheese, and the town decided to make its own. Thus, this became the town's biggest export. By 1900, Reservotar had 35,092 people. It was a famed coastal town known all over Kelais, and production just took off even more. In 1902, after Reservotar Cheese was established, Reservotar had an industry boom. It became known from all over, more started to move in, and more bought from the place. It was doing very well, one of the more successful towns in Cynetia. Despite problems with flooding and heavy rainstorms, the town has still managed to do extremely well, and still won't stop growing. Reservotar managed to keep this growth on and on. Of course, Reservotar can't stay steady with this growth, and it gets full very often. Due to this, it's constantly preparing for rapid expansion and construction. Most of the city's taxes and funding go to city planning, but this has also made Reservotar more expensive. Some complain about Reservotar's pricing increase, but others believe it is necessary to keep the city alive. Reservotar is still known as a wonderful, historic port city deserving of its status as a Cynetian cultural site.

Facts
  • Reservotar is known for its native Siluk population and dairy production.
  • Reservotar is the local capital of the Siluk province.
  • It has many casinos per capita.
  • The real life parallels are Seattle and Bergen.
  • Reservotar residents are called "Reservot," "Reservotari," or "Reservotan."
  • Reservotar was designated a cultural site in 1959.
  • Reservotar was named "Nicest City in Cynetia" by Matoria City-based Urban Life Magazine multiple times. Ever since the category was introduced in 1999, it was named such in 1999, 2000, 2003-2005, 2009-2012, 2015, and 2019-2021.

  • A Sikkukat resident is called a "Sikku," sometimes jokingly a "Kool Kat."
  • The flag has a black background, and a yellow "Siluk teardrop" symbol. It was likely first made in the 1500s after the attacks in the Siluk state, but didn't become Sikkukat's flag until 1804. The Siluk teardrop is also used in the logo for Reservotar Cheese.
  • Sikkukat was supposed to have been named from a plaque an Anglese settler found along the shores. It may have read the name of Chief Sattskit, but was highly eroded and changed slightly by the settler.

Bari

Bari, sometimes called "South Siluk," is where the Siluk reservation ends. Much like the province of Siluk, Bari is famed for slightly cold, rocky coasts, and rainy weather, though not as wet as the Siluk province. The minimum wage is 500 Crycovars. The main flag was made in 1962, but a proposition was held in 2009 for a new flag. After only 51.56% of Bari provincial residents voted for the flag, the provincial government in Consurve decided the votes were not enough to completely replace the old one, so both are considered official flags of Bari and are used interchangably.

Consurve

Description

Consurve is a fairly large coastal city on the Bari Peninsula, overlooking Consurve Bay. It is known to be one of the few truly "liberal" cities in Cynetia.

History

Consurve was established on August 6th, 1554, originally named Landorber. It was a native settlement along the bay that was very flat and adjacent to the ocean, so it suffered intense flooding, especially with all the creeks and minor rivers flowing through the area. The natives built dams and dikes to control the water, and some settlers collaborated with them and came to improve these dams and dikes as well as build more. From there, the residents made their living off fishing and farming. The floods were far more controlled than they used to be, but weren't over yet. Around February 1622, a large flood known as the Great Flood of Landorber ravaged through the area and destroyed many homes. Settlers rebuilt the town and named it "Consurve".

Matoria

Matoria is one of the only autonomous provinces in Cynetia, due to the Matorian culture differing from the rest of Cynetia. The Matoria province, along with the Matorian Peninsula, make up the autonomous Matoria area. It's also one of the many urban hubs, and one of the most populous provinces in Cynetia. The minimum wage is typically 500 Crycovars, but Qarendi has 520, Karton has 530, and Matoria City and Zilaos have 550.

Matoria City

Description

Buddy the Miracle Dog.

Matoria City (known as Citi de Matoria in Cynetian and Cida de Matoria in Matorian) is one of many Cynetian cities especially known for its offbeat and weird culture, with tourist attractions such as "The Aisle of Pots and Pans," and "The Big Cheese," but also more serious monuments, such as "Buddy the Miracle Dog," and "Monument to the Unlawfully Fought Matorians." It hosts major buildings such as the Matorian Grand Olympic Stadium, the largest stadium in Cynetia. Matoria City is one of the least religious cities in Cynetia, with only 15.65% of the population identifying as religious. Native Matorians historically believed in no god, and they believed it was foolish to do so.

History

Matoria City is one of the newer cities compared to most major Cynetian cities. It was established on October 25th, 1804, on the Matorian Peninsula. It was originally called "Matoriaville." In 1806, it was renamed to Matoria City, and was incorporated in 1809. It originally started as three settlements: Matoria City itself on the Matorian Peninsula, Bander in the northwest, and Ketsa in the southeast. Bander was originally the largest of the three, but after Ketsa voted to join Matoria City in 1823, Matoria City was the largest of them. Bander eventually voted to join Matoria City in 1828, bringing its population to 6,532. Eventually, it passed 10,000 in 1831, 100,000 in 1893, and 1,000,000 in 1962. Matoria City especially grew after the establishment of the Peninsula Port in 1902.

Buddy the Miracle Dog

Buddy (August 15th, 1988-December 13th, 2003) was a German Shepherd owned by the mayor of Matoria City, Sihat Burnham, who loved Buddy very much. He made international news when members of the Cynetian Animal Liberation Group tried to shoot the dog in October 1996, due to their "irreverence towards pets." He ran with just some injuries on his leg. This was one of the many events leading to the government forcefully dissolving CALG, and Buddy was remembered ever since. "Buddy was a loving dog who would walk by anyone, say a quick hello and everything. He just loved every resident, probably even more than I did he was that great." - Sihat Burnham, December 14th, 2003.

Facts
  • A resident from Matoria City is called a "Matorite," an "Urban Matorian," or a "City Matorian," to avoid confusion with the entire province of Matoria, and the Matorian ethnic group.
  • Matoria City is the local capital of Matoria.
  • Matoria City is the second largest city in Cynetia.
  • It was designated as a cultural center in 1957.
  • Despite Matoria City's auto industry, Matoria City has some of the worst drivers in Cynetia. Barely anyone knows why, but it was said that the Matorians disliked cars when they were introduced to Cynetia.
  • Matoria City has a notable festival every May 13th known as the "Folk Festival". It's normally used to remember traditions and lost loved ones. Every year, marigolds and tulips are dumped onto the streets and traditional music plays.

Qarendi

Description

Qarendi was historically, and still remains, the main industrial center of Matoria. Main exports from Qarendi include timber.

History

Qarendi (alternatively known as Karendi) was established on December 7th, 1782. It was planned to be a valley hub for Matorians, as most have settled along the northwestern coasts, and the northeastern hills. At the same time, Qarendi was surrounded by patches of trees. These trees became very useful for the settlement and built it up. However, Qaren residents also realized that these trees could become an industry. Qarendi was incorporated on June 13th, 1785, at 1,016 in population. Qarendi grew as a timber town, but it started to go a little under as trees were going away. They then realized they could replant those trees, and industry in Qarendi was back to normal. In the 1840s, as it reached 35,244, Qarendi established multiple coal plants and factories around the town, and tried exporting processed meat. This made Qarendi the most polluted city in Cynetia at the time. In the 1980s, the coal plants were all demolished. The factories, however, did not fail, and most are still around today, with new ones popping up for timber processing. Meat processing has also been growing a little in Qarendi, keeping the economy steady for years to come.

Zilaos

Description

Rated the most underrated city in Cynetia by multiple articles, Zilaos is known for the slight mountainous setting it lies in, with little mountains and hills making the base of the city, but none significant enough to surpass 1,000 feet.

History

Zilaos (formerly/alternatively Zillaotia) was established on September 17th, 1834. It was established after some Matorians ran to the hills in escape of the settlers. They came in to Matoria's valleys to convert them to Crisianism (Kelais Christianity), but of course, the irreligious Matorians refused. Both sides sta rted to have tensions, and they eventually fought battles in skirmishes. The native Matorians ran off to the Matoria Hills to attempt to build a hill city, a "paradise" to escape from the "atrocities of Crisianism." Zilaos was soon formed. The settlers formed religious communities in Pladacostera and Centyria, which is how places like Balamarecshe became religious. Historically, Matorians, for the most part, believed it was foolish to believe in a god. An Eastern story from 1856, criticized for slight religious bias, goes:

The Matorian tribes of their great land, and their infidelity, branches from their foolishness in finding a God. The Matorians were rather under trouble, and quite malnourished. To look for help, they wanted to look for a god. The Matorians first tried praying to the moon. "O dear moon. Give us crops. Give us food. Let there be a harvest!" The next morning, no harvest came. So instead, desperate, they prayed to a boulder. "O dear boulder. Glisten with gold for our care if you are the overlord for us Matorians!" The boulder did not glisten with gold, even when they cut it up with tools. More desperate, they looked for a tree. "O tree. You have damned us and hoodwinked us for long, but it is time you reveal yourself as our overlord. O pine tree. Let one of your needles turn red and fall onto our hands." Again, the tree did not abide. Thus, the Matorians became infidels, reverting to the act of atheism.

With stone, timber, and the collaborative minds of the Matorians, the city was built, with winding paths and stone buildings. This city started to grow wonderfully quickly. Zilaos was incorporated on June 23rd, 1842, with 1,598 in population. Zilaos was trying to become the "hot spring capital of Cynetia" in the 1870s, establishing hot springs in multiple areas, before abandoning the idea ten years later. The city took a dark turn when on December 5th, 1900, a resident from Ubent shot two Zilaotians fatally, and put golden crosses in their beds. One of these residents was Crisian, ironically. This made the city angry, and riots escalated in Zilaos to protect the Matorians' right of having no religion. The protest became a riot when one resident shot a priest fatally, and three other protesters beat him up. Damage to the city was prevalent, and the large population change was halted. It started to resurge in the 1920s, after the town was rebuilt. On September 6th, 1969, the Zillaotia Reservoir Dam was built. The Zillaotia Reservoir is a lake on the foothills just three miles south of Zilaos, fed by Zillaotia Creek. The dam provides a little percentage of Zilaos's power today. The lake is quite small, but serves as a tourist attraction for those beating the heat. Zilaos suffered again during the 1978 Economy Crash, but again bounced back and became the city it is today, a popular mountain city growing fast.

Benaer

Description

Benaer is a little city in northwestern Matoria. It is known for the brick and concrete buildings that dominate the city. It was historically used as one of the three main pit stops of Matoria. Benaer was a stopover town, normally to sleep in, while Qarendi was the place to gather resources, and Matoria City was mainly the destination. The main attraction near Benaer is two miles to the northeast, known as the Warner Mansion. Owned by the Warner family in 1893, it sat in abandon after the family's disappearance. The mansion is said to be haunted due to this. It's one of the most popular "haunted" attractions in Cynetia, along with the Huntington Mansion in Riverton and the Lone Reflecting Pond north of Plato.

Xavier

Description

Xavier is a prevalent college town in the Matorian area, home to Xavier University of Matoria. The university is named one of the more affordable in Cynetia while still maintaining an above-average education level compared to others in the country.

History

Xavier was established on March 8th, 1809 by Michael John Xavier. The establishment was disputed for several years as the Xavier University of Matoria was established by the same man on June 20th, 1807. The establishment was the date the first housing developments and businesses were established and completed around the university. Xavier was built around the university, with non-university roads leaving large spaces around it for more expansion opportunities. Xavier wasn't named a community until 1812, when it reached a population of 100 people. Technically, there was no town in its place until then, just the university. Xavier was then incorporated and recognized as a town in 1838. The town was developing more, changing faster, but that change was soon put to a halt.

In the afternoon of October 4th, 1841, a fire started in the west wing of the Reed Wellman Library at Xavier University. The fire was said to be caused by a lit candle knocked over by a student on accident. The fire spread and engulfed several books, and eventually the walls of the building. Students were evacuated as the fire spread further and reached more parts of the university, eventually hitting residential neighborhoods. Seven students and one staff died in total. The staff and four students were caught in the flames while the remaining three students died from smoke inhalation. This was one of the most dangerous school accidents in Cynetian history, and also one of the deadliest general school tragedies in the country.

Matoria City

Description

This section of Matoria City is known to be one of the only areas in Cynetia to speak Matorian. Cynetia passed a legislation that approved the peninsula breaking away, and Matorian would be recognized as an official language. However, due to Matoria also speaking Matorian, this proposition was controversial. In 1972, a proposal was made for it to rejoin Matoria, which failed.

To not confuse with the city of Grand Rivers, addresses are normally labeled as the Province of Grand Rivers. The minimum wage is 530 Crycovars.

Kindport

Description

Kindport is the largest city on the south coast of Cynetia, the 2nd largest on the entire coast, and the 5th largest in all of Cynetia. It shares the Bridge of the Great Matsul with Croser, the longest bridge in Cynetia.

History

Instead of Kindport, the settlement of Gajornas was in Kindport's place, established in 1479. Soon, the Gajornas Plantations were established. The Gajornas Plantations was a group of plantations established and managed by the Gajornas Trading and Plantations Company. The plantations were established in 1483, by the orders of Company Lord Bertold Kimberly. The plantations would bring in minimal profits, but would result in the founding of later to come major towns and cities. As the expenses grew, Bertold would begin to pay the workers and owners of the plantations through spoils from military conquests deeper inland. As these conflicts continued on, the natives got more and more unhappy. In 1496, the natives would organize a massive raid towards the Gajornas Plantations, burning most of the plantations, and forcing Bertold to try and repopulate the plantations, while the natives continued constantly raided them. In 1504, with costs rising and no profits, the G.P.C. would be abolished, and the Republic of Kindport would be declared, ruled by Sir William Bernner, who would later in 1506 decide to involve Kindport in the project of Cynetia, with Kindport in the end becoming a province of Cynetia.[7] The city of Kindport took the name from the province and replaced Gajornas in 1510, after Gajornas was destroyed by a fire in 1508. The Bridge of the Grand Matsul was completed in 1970, revolutionizing travel between Kindport and the rest of the West. WIP

Facts
  • The population of Kindport was +++ 1,217,740 in 2020.
  • Kindport is the fifth largest city in Cynetia.
  • Kindport is known as the "strip club capital" of Cynetia.
  • The city code is KDP.
  • In Kindport, a law remains that isn't enforced anymore stating "No individual must laugh at the mayor's pets during a conference." This law was in place since 1942, when then mayor, Salheim Livermore, was giving a speech and brought his cat out on stage. He loved his pet cat and often brought her to these speeches. Some of the audience laughed when the cat started licking her own crotch, while the mayor was explaining how he was boosting economics and what help he needed. Furious, he proposed the law on that very stage and it was accepted five days later. The punishment was getting kicked out of the conference and not coming back until the next two, or if the mayor decides not to bring their pet. This law is still an official Kindport law, but it's considered an "abandoned law", one that remains in print but no longer used.[8]

History

Janson is a rather new city that started as a community on July 15th, 1856. It had the name "Carterville," named after Michael Siegel Carter, who founded the community. After being incorporated on April 6th, 1890, it was named after Carly Marianne Janson, known to likely be the 1000th resident to move in. It was renamed because Michael Carter was found to have owned Zhomese and Mastistani as slaves illegally, and was rather rude to the residents. After his conviction, the town was renamed, however, Carly Janson was not known to be a nice person either. Janson was once a remarked city in the 1950s through to the 1970s, but after the economic crash caused by Camas Frohnmayer, Janson fell into ruin. WIP

Alanera

Description

Known for the wine country nearby, Alanera is the local capital of Eastern Burnabia, despite Yibble being much larger. It is known for popular food that is famed to be the best in the east, and a general historical-styled setting.

History

Alanera was founded on December 5th, 1789. Alanera was a little stopover community at the time. It remained that way for many years, slowly growing. Then, on June 25th, 1845, Alanera was incorporated, with just 1,178 people living in it. Alanera wasn't growing too much, and mostly went around the highway, which was then the "main road." In 1876, the layout of Alanera was proposed, a very grid-based city layout. In the 1880s, Alanera started to expand, and demand for living in Alanera was higher. Alanera was still a little town, but made it to 6,934 people in 1950. In the 1960s, with the addition of factories in Eastern Cynetia, demand for Alanera was even higher, and the population boosted up to 10,457 in 1970, becoming 14,845 in 1980. Despite the desertion of factories in the region, Alanera made its way up to 18,553 in 1990. 2000 marked the slowing period of Alanera's population. The fast growth started to fade, and went to 21,346 at the time. Despite Alanera's population growth from 2010 to 2020 being 0.68%, it's still regarded as a "landmark town" of the east, and one of the few eastern towns to not lose population.

Yibble

Description

Yibble (alternatively known as Yibol) is a fairly small city in the eastern side. The city borders Mastistan, and it lies on the confluence of the Masa and Yibble rivers.

Three major routes run through Yibble. CYT 33 (Eastern Belt Highway), CYT 233 (Rural Burnabia Highway), and MST 94 (Grenist Mountain Highway). The town crosses into the unincorporated community of Gresadera, Mastistan.

History

Yibble was founded on October 28th, 1766. From there, it was mostly a little community with some industry. It was incorporated as a town on May 19th, 1827, with a population of 789 people. Yibble grew from this little town, and became a hub for factories, especially in the 1960s with the industry boom. By 1960, Yibble had 54,455 people, but by 1970, it had 77,336. In 1980, Yibble reached a peak population of 92,762. From there, Yibble saw a population decline. 1990 saw 90,235, 2000 saw 89,978, and 2010 had 87,193. Yibble was complained about as a "boring" town without much service, and not much working opportunities due to the 1980s eco-friendly change. While Cynetians argue it has made the country a better place, some Cynetians talk about the harm it has done to places like Yibble. Yibble attempted to rebound through tourism. The Dramatic Duck Theater, Yibble Twin Bridges, and William Garfield Mystery Plaque provide decent amounts of tourism to the area. Though in 2014, a businessman by the name of Evan Michs attempted to start a rumor that a state known as the Yibble Federal Republic existed from 1823-1827 in rebellion against Cynetia. Michs attempted to unveil a statue dedicated to the president from this rumor, but couldn't carry forth as this was proven fake.[9]

  • The real life parallel is Medford, Oregon.
  • A Yibble resident is called a "Yibblite."
  • Yibble had a population of + 83,609 in 2020.
  • The city code is YBL.
  • Yibble was the first city flag imagined for Cynetia. While it was created on August 16th, 2021, after the creation of others on the 15th, Yibble's flag had been imagined far back, as a derpy yellow countryball with a red circle.
  • In 1934, a white pillar labeled as "The Statue" appeared in Yibble. It appeared in the rich neighborhood, Houses on the River Yibble. Since then, people started complaining of faint screams some nights, and many even complained of gaining mental issues from the sculpture. On August 6th, 1972, a man named Hethman Louis had enough of this sculpture. He wrote a note detailing the pain this pillar caused him, how it made him more sad and violent as a person. Eventually, at 2:40 in the morning, he bombed the sculpture, and himself. The neighborhood woke up to human remains and debris, the site was closed off. Since then, the pillar was never recreated, and no one can explain the mystery behind it.[10] In March 2004, it was replaced with "Pulsing", a geometric modern art sculpture by Leteu Honset.

Balamarecshe

Description

Balamarecshe (alternatively known as Balamareshe) is a historically influenced town in Centyria.

History

Balamarecshe, despite the historical influence, is fairly new compared to many settlements in Cynetia, being established on August 14th, 1797, when Cynetians found the little Centyr Valley, just northwest of the Grand River Matsul. The town was placed in the north side of the valley, just where the forest starts. They named it "Marecshe," coming from "mare," meaning house, and "eshe (ecshe in old Cynetian)," meaning "safe" in old Cynetian, "clean" in modern Cynetian. The town was clearly growing, being incorporated on October 5th, 1807, and it was renamed to "Balamarecshe," with "bala" meaning bold. So Balamarecshe meant "bold safe house." Balamarecshe was one of the more religious communities in Cynetia, with churches established everywhere around the city. Balamarecshe was, of course, highly affected by the large town fire in 1845. Despite the large fire, many of the churches remained standing, causing many to believe it was a sign of god. Of course, during the "Atheist Revolution" in October-November 1926, two of Balamarecshe's churches were destroyed. The Atheist Revolution was a series of riots in Balamarecshe set up by irreligious people complaining that the truth wasn't being heard. This event was often called a national embarrassment by secular and religious Cynetians alike. One was preserved as ruins that can still be seen today, and the other was completely removed from the city, with a general store remaining in its place today. Balamarecshe still remains one of the most religious communities in Cynetia, with 79.81% of the population identifying as religious.

Description

Drivore is the capital and the largest city in Cynetia. Making up 13% of Cynetia's population, Drivore has been a significant population center for a very long time in Cynetia's history. Drivore is one the only provinces, along with Eastern Burnabia, to have an alternate flag in times of war. The war flag is the the only flag in Cynetia to involve transparent aspects.

History

Drivore was named after the Drivore Valley, coming from the Gargolian words for "divorced river." After the settlers took the area and made settlements, the natives complained about their river being taken away, which was used mostly for fishing and logging. Drivore was established as the fishing community of "Gargolia City," on November 15th, 1618. Gargolia City was incorporated on September 2nd, 1654, with 1,453 people. In 1664, it was renamed to Riverdale, before being renamed to Drivore in 1669. Drivore reached 10,774 people in 1713. Drivore was made the capital of Cynetia then, moved from the de facto temporary capital of Reservotar. Drivore had been growing steadily since then. It reached 51,234 in 1787. Of course, during a war with the then-dictatorship of Mastistan, Drivore was met with soldiers on December 10th, 1794. They attacked civilians and destroyed homes, with 103 people dying on Cynetia's side, and 24 dying on Mastistan's side. This was the worst battle loss in Cynetian history, and the battle encouraged them to grow stronger. An army base camp was built in Chapitale, just north of Drivore, because of this. In the end, Cynetia won the war with Mastistan, and Drivore grew from this base camp. Drivore went ahead to 102,342 people in 1823, and 500,981 in 1914. Drivore went mostly steady from here, but it was still a bustling capital. Traffic problems arose in the city, and still are prevalent today. There were even ways for the railroad and freeways to bypass the bustling city, both of them having tunnels to get through without disrupting the life above. At one of the entrances to the freeway tunnel, there is a unique park, known as Intersrod Park. The park has grassland, sculptures, and, of course, a view of the freeway below. Nowadays, multiple road projects have been planned for the city to keep the traffic situation dealt with.

Languages

Cynetian

Cynetian likely originated from Siluk, Matorian, and Kotakett influences, the three coastal tribes. As the Gargolians went extinct, Cynetian was being formed. The Siluk and Kotakett languages went nearly extinct, and Matorian is the only fully native language still thriving. The first usages of Cynetian were found in the Siluk Hills National Monument. Cynetian speakers typically learn Anglese as a second language. One Cynetian language rule is when "e" ends a word, it is typically pronounced "ay." Notable city examples include Tore, Mare, and Drivore. This is an exception in some cases, like in "le" (Yibble), "che," "she" (Balamarecshe), and typically "me" (Wysome).

Matorian

Matorian is a language originated from the province of Matoria. It's a small native language that is only official in Matoria and the Matorian Peninsula, but is used through out many places in Cynetia. Due to the small usage of the language, some joke about how Matorian isn't very widespread. In 1998, a rock band formed in Matoria City known as "Nobody Knows Matorian." Matorian speakers typically learn both Cynetian and Anglese as languages, normally learning Cynetian first. Matorian has the same "e-ending" rule, but instead of "ay," it's pronounced "eh." For example, the capital would be dree-vor-eh. Some minor dialects drop the exceptions, mostly in Eastern Matoria. Yibble would be pronounced "Yib-bleh", Balamarecshe would be "Bal-uh-mar-esh-eh", and Wysome would be "Wee-so-meh".

Anglese

Anglese, which is the Kelais name for English, is the only official language to not be native to Cynetia. Settlers brought it in, and it is now the most widely used language in the country, with Cynetian coming in very close. Anglese speakers typically learn Cynetian as a second language.

Dialects

Old-Modern Anglese
Kynto Anglese

Kynto Anglese was a special form of Anglese specific to Cynetia. "Byth gould do we remane, 'cos in our am'rs we have the lighte of the 'oly one. Byth gould do we still, 'cos we have notte fallen. (But good do we remain, because in our arms we have the light of the holy one. But good do we stand, because we have not fallen.)"

Modern Minor Dialects

Cynetia's dialects span several regions and offer several different changes from other forms of Anglese.

Northern

West Coast

West Coast Anglese is one of the older remaining dialects of Anglese in Cynetia. They're notable for calling harbors and ports "boat-ins" in both Cynetian and Anglese. This particular change originated from old Cynetian, when harbors and ports were called this. Even around the 1700s, when "harbor" and "port" got new Cynetian words, the West Coast didn't change.

Central

South Coast

Eastern

Eastern Cynetians are known to have a more Mennerian accent compared to other Cynetians, as a large influx of Mennerians settled the valleys in the late 1700s due to tensions with Anglia.

Flags

Cynetia's flag is composed of a dark green background (     #00ca12), with a light blue cross (     #9adcff) and a white diamond (     #ffffff) laid over it.

Historical Flags

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms consists of two Roosevelt elk in the centerpiece, the national animal at the time, with Cynetian flags flying behind them, over an emblem with deer antlers on the top.

Padel

Padel is a fashion chain from Rift City, founded by Norstia Padel on October 7th, 1924.

Rail Transport

Rail workers come from all over Cynetia, but mostly from Eastern Cynetia and the province of Coteran. Countries frequently buy from Cynetia for their efficient and modern railroads. Cynetia has also been helping itself, and always jumps into action after a train crash. The railroad system was originally made to transport mail and messages much faster in Cynetia, then Menneria took in these ideas and made the automobile. Cynetia, Menneria, and Anglia then went into a race to make the world's first motor-powered flying machine. Anglia then took that prize. Menneria later improved on Anglia's plane design, attempting to sell more of it by calling it "the world's first," causing a minor controversy before Menneria finally admitted Anglia was the true inventor of the airplane. During this controversy, Cynetia sold their improved design as "an improvement on the Anglese original," which the manufacturers admitted was a passive-aggressive attack on Menneria. After the 1839 completion of the railroad system, Cynetia's railroads were originally notoriously dangerous. In 1854, politicians finally agreed to send workers to improve the failing railroads. Since the completion of the renovations in 1862, Cynetian railroads were extremely popular again, and had a high efficiency. This efficiency started to fade in later years, and immediately after the November 1999 crash, track modernization began, and trains were improved. The southern half was completed in 2002, but part of the operation was cancelled due to the fires in Eastern Burnabia. In 2005, railroad modernization was eventually complete, and higher demand for Cynetian rail production was sought after, with many countries wanting Cynetian rail products. Cynetia is currently the world's largest exporter in rail products.

Cheese

Reservotar Cheese logo, notably using the Siluk teardrop

Since pre-Cynetian times, Siluk natives have perfected making cheese from the cows of the land, the first known usages of cheese making in Cynetian history. Cheese making spread to the English settlers as well. On September 15th, 1902, Reservotar Cheese was established, the largest creamery in Cynetia, and the largest on the continent. It's one of the more famous aspects of Reservotar, and the company supplies all of Cynetia, and most of the continent. Reservotar Cheese also has processing plants in Qarendi, Drivore, Sahatsie, Heater, and Riverbend. Matoria and Eastern Burnabia also have locally famed creameries.

Wine

Vineyards have been set up all across Cynetia, with main concentrations near Alanera, Karton, and Silivola. Alaner vineyards are the largest producing in Cynetia, and have won multiple awards in the past. Cynetia is a large wine exporter in the world of Kelais.

Strawberries

Strawberry farms come mostly from northern Cynetia, with farms near Invetie, Careria, and Gorginsk very prevalent, but Yibble and Wallosia also have little strawberry farms dotting the land outside the city.

Lumber

Lumber makes a large part of the Cynetian economy, especially in Qarendi, Karton, Curveside, Careria, and Lilend. Careria has a company, known as the Carer Logging Company. The Carer Logging Company became nationally recognized on December 14th, 2012, when a logging truck hit car full of residents from Kindport on an icy mountain road in northwestern Wegdruck. Five people died in this accident. While the driver of the truck, Mat Walker, did try to save the people affected in the crash, arriving too late, conspiracy theories arose anyway. The most popular conspiracy theory is that Mat was possessed by the "evil" corporation, and killed the people inside the car. Also in the theory, it is stated that the possession wore off, but at the wrong time. Cynetian president at the time, Ben Rugudo, condemns these theories, stating "whoever made them is clearly trying to make a mockery of a tragic incident that won't be forgotten."

Cows

Cow farms are all over Cynetia's valleys, but they mostly reside in areas outside of eastern towns. WIP

Road signs were simplified in 1982 to not hold two languages (or three in Matoria's case) on one sign.

Nature

National Park System

National Parks were established in Cynetia after the industrial boom in the 1850s. Especially after the recent railroad building, expansion has been prevalent in multiple areas, and during this period, Taxí was incorporated on August 4th, 1852, and Mounter followed on March 1st, 1855. To prevent such towns "polluting the magnificent views and scenery of Cynetia," according to then leader, Joe Gerigach, the national parks system was invented in 1857. The first one to be made was Taxí Mountains National Park, on April 17th, 1857, then the Coteran National Forest followed on May 6th, 1858.

Coteran National Forest

The Coteran National Forest is a forest in Coteran and Duoria. As a national forest, it is protected from timber industry or any removal of trees that isn't related to fire safety. You are, however, allowed to hunt and fish in this forest, but hunting/fishing laws are stricter in this area. The Coteran National Forest had suffered extensive damage in the 2005 Orange August wildfire.

Mount Carer National Park

Mount Carer National Park is another largely visited national park in Cynetia. Known to have a long, tough hike to Mount Carer, and to be popular for backpackers. There are easier hikes to local mountain lakes and little waterfalls. The town of Dasen in Wegdruck is known to be the "gateway" to the park.

Siluk Hills National Monument

Siluk Hills National Monument is known to have historical sites and scenic, rolling hills. It's especially known for the ruined "Foothill Fortress," which was destroyed in the Kill on Siluk Hills. It also has little scenic waterfalls from the Siluk River, and tributary creeks.

Taxí Mountains National Park

Taxí Mountains National Park is the most famous national park in Cynetia. Tourists from all around the world often stop in Taxí to go skiing and lodging, but also for easy access into the national park itself. The park includes tough hikes up Freedom Fighter and Strong Stander, and a 182-meter (596-foot) tall waterfall plunging into Lake Banera, known as Ekalo Falls. Hikes such as the Freedom Fighter East Side hike are seen as good hikes for beginner backpackers.

Wildlife

Cynetia is abundant in multiple species of wildlife. White-tailed deer, the national animal, and mule deer, mostly of the black-tailed deer subspecies, inhabit the forests, along with tree squirrels and chipmunks (Townsend's and Allen's chipmunks). Chipmunks are mostly prevalent in Duoria's somewhat dry pine forests. Roosevelt elk mostly inhabit the western coasts, with some influence in the southern coast.

Environmental Movements

Cynetian Animal Liberation Group

The Cynetian Animal Liberation Group, or CALG, was a group made for protecting the rights of animals in Cynetia. They were based in Sintore, Matoria, but have made locations in Reservotar, Drivore, Riverbend, Grand Rivers, and Invetie.

History

CALG was made on June 15th, 1961. June 15th is considered "No-Meat Day" in Cynetia, where it is highly encouraged, but not required, to stop eating meat for a day. They started out as a rescue group, helping injured animals and re-releasing them. They slightly encouraged people to be vegan, but not forcefully, and they reported cases of animal abuse. In the 1970s, they started losing members and started getting more corrupt. The 1980s marked their "silent period," where barely anything happened, but after multiple controversies in the 1990s, they were forcefully dissolved by the Cynetian government as a "harmful group."

Controversies

CALG was controversial from the beginning, but only slightly. CALG was remarkably similar to the Cynetian word "calger," which is an alternative word for "fucker" or "dickhead." Some people called for the name to be changed due to this.

Their first major controversy was on October 5th, 1974, when group members posted signs outside pet stores across the capital saying "Pet ownership is abuse. Abuse is what you deserve." Their second was on February 28th, 1977. A CALG member was reported to have a meltdown inside of a market in Sintore over someone bringing their dog. The member hit the owner and the dog, and called them profane words and slurs. The member was banned from the market for ten years, and was put under watch.

CALG started to get international attention on August 7th, 1994, when they were seen releasing cows from a farm outside Alanera. The government warned them that if this happened again, action would be taken on them. They protested the opening of a deli in Qarendi on May 17th, 1995, and eventually burned it on January 5th, 1996. CALG stole "Buddy," the Matoria City mayor's dog on October 2nd, 1996, and tried to kill it. They shot his leg before he ran away, and a CALG member disgusted by this reported on the story. On November 16th, 1996, a meat truck on a Smurifan country road flipped when CALG members shot at its tires. On November 18th, CALG members made a fire outside the Drivore Regal Library and put cookbooks with meat recipes into it. Reservotar Cheese workers spoke out against CALG on December 20th, 1996, reporting that members had come in, tried to purposefully disrupt their production, and even tried to assault multiple workers. Due to this, CALG said that Reservotar Cheese was "abusing cows" and "using workers as slaves." According to member Alina Cersovic, "The only reason the workers there spoke out against us was because they were scared they would get abused again if they didn't." Reservotar Cheese denied this, and made videos highlighting life in the workplace, releasing security footage both for them and against CALG, and released pictures of the cows' conditions. Eventually on January 3rd, 1997, the Cynetian government made a statement regarding CALG. "We cannot believe we haven't taken action earlier. We're embarrassed. CALG is an embarrassment. There is no room for harmful groups such as them on Cynetian land. If anything, they're terrorizing residents more than helping animals." CALG was dissolved on January 5th.

Alternative Cars

In 2017, Cynetian car companies stopped manufacturing fuel-based cars for the most part. Cynetia is labeled one of the best countries in Kelais to drive an electric or hydrogen car in. Electric chargers are at almost every Cynetian gas station, as well as hydrogen car stations, and appear in multiple stores. In 2018, Cynetian store chain, Banera, announced they would install electric car chargers in every parking lot of their stores. While Cynetia has not entirely banned fuel-based cars, they hope that by 2030, everyone will own an electric or hydrogen car.

Environmental-Based Laws

  • On April 22nd, 1958, Cynetia required all timber industries to replant any tree that is taken down in a forest, unless a certain condition states otherwise.

Hiking and Trails

CM Cross Trail

The CM Cross Trail, or the Cynetia-Mastistan Cross Trail, is one of the longest hiking trails in Cynetia, as well as on the entire continent of Secren. Cynetia's side is notorious for the Carerian Wilderness and Taxí Mountains segments, which are some of the most dangerous trail segments on Secren, the most dangerous being the Zero Chance segment of this trail in Western Mastistan.

Politics

Laws

  • Cynetia allowed women to be topless on April 12th, 1922, but not many people go by this rule even in modern society. On February 1st, 1925, Cynetia designated areas where public nudity is allowed, including certain city parks, events, and generally areas with less than 10,000 people. Places like West Grand Rivers, Phoenix, Coyote, Sooki, and Granford, all below 10,000 people, have made laws outlawing public nudity in the city limits. Riverbend, Yibble, Beltchain, Hivol, Niš, Trinal, Balamarecshe, and Balero are the only cities in Cynetia to have no designated areas of public nudity. Taxí has seasonal areas, which are only open to nudists in the Spring and Fall, when there isn't as much tourism. Of course, despite these laws, it is culturally disrespectful to be in public unclothed.
  • Necrophilia is generally not convicted in Cynetia, however, you need permission of a close relative. The hardest provinces to do this in are conservative Smurifa, the Burnabias, Forales, Acaptor, and Chapitale, as well as the religious provinces of Pladacostera and Centyria, as people generally have a poor reception of necrophilia. The country itself is found to be a very hard place to do such acts, despite the legality.
  • Drugs, alcohol, porn, and other addictives have been legalized by the Cynetian government, as they are seen as "a sign that something's wrong", which in turn, the government would address it, as it is likely a mental issue. Cynetia has high rates of addictions, and many criticize the government for not taking action as they promised.
  • The age of consent in Cynetia is 18, however, anyone below 18 can engage in sexual contact with others within two years of age 14 and above. Below 14, legally, anyone in contact has to be one year or less apart in age, but 14 is set as the "recommended minimum".
  • Cynetia is one of the few countries in Kelais to allow hunting of their national animal.
  • Abortion is legal in the case of health, rape, or socioeconomic factors.

Native Tribes

Siluk

Tikkasur

The Siluk started out as a somewhat religious tribe, often making folklore about events in their area. They only believed in two spirits. Kelais itself was a spirit, attempting to counter the terrible actions of the other spirit, the Latara. The Latara, also known as the "Eagle of Terror", was an extravagant, multi-colored eagle that controlled heavy rains, severe weather, mostly floods, and sometimes death itself and negative emotions. The land would counter these actions with positivity. Mostly succeeding, other times failing. The Siluks themselves believed they were destined to help the land and counter the Latara themselves as well. Both spirits are frequently featured in folklore, and non-spiritual figures appear as well. One of the more prominent non-spiritual creatures is Tikkasur. Tikkasur has the head of a sea lion and the body of a bear.

The Latara, "Eagle of Terror"

Among our home, there lived two spirits. One was the land itself. It controlled positivity. It helped people feel happiness, love, and often implants good memories. The land prospers to help everyone along, but the one other spirit wasn't around to do good. The Latara, the eagle of terror. Arising from the hills, it was a sin at birth and will never see death. It controlled negativity. It promoted sudden feelings of sadness, anger, distrust, sometimes it even controlled lust. It caused people to lie, it caused death. It controlled the rain, the floods, any treacherous weather. Despite all of these actions, it still had a colorful nature and extravagance. The land tries hard to counter the actions of the Latara, mostly succeeding, but it fails often. The people around are destined to help, even if the Latara doesn't win. People were brought into the world to help our land and suppress the Latara.
"Formation of the Bay"

Anglese

Once, in times before we roamed, the Siluk lands were just a valley along the raging ocean. The Latara did most of its work there because that is where the land was weakest. Once flat lands of grass with small patches of trees, it hosted a haven for many magical creatures. One of them was Rabo, a coyote in charge of taking care of the lands. Back then, Rabo believed it was destined to take care of the lands on its own. One day, Rabo walked around the meadows and looked for trees to build a shelter for one of the animals. When Rabo got closer to a small patch of trees, they suddenly died. Rabo walked to the creek and tried to collect clean water, but the creek turned black as it got closer. Rabo decided to go to bed, but found itself unable to sleep all night. When Rabo woke up in the morning, as the sun was rising, an eye appeared in front of that sun. "Danger... danger..." it uttered. "What does this mean, oh land?" said Rabo. "You'll face terrible things very soon, and with little chance to counter them," uttered the eye. Rabo ran away to the hills in attempts to hide from this upcoming danger, but suddenly, the ground started to rumble. It was the Latara! Rabo taunted it and insulted it, trying to fight it, but nothing was working. The Latara then picked up Rabo and threw it into a cloud, which burst open, filling the flat land with water. Rabo was the first death in the entire world, and the bay remains a grim sign of it.

"The Man Who Swore"

Anglese

In a quaint tent on the Siluk Hills, there lived a strong man known as Alboyor. Ever since birth, Alboyor had unusual abilities. As a child, he helped take down trees and make them into stable canoes long before the sun set. As an adolescent, he killed wild deer, even bears with his own bare hands. As an adult, he wondered how far his power would go. To prove himself, Alboyor swore to his neighbors that he could cross the large river Koke where it empties to the sea, making it to the other side without drowning. His neighbors burst into laughter, some hard of breath and letting out tears. "No one crosses that river, not even the strongest. Moh, you will lay dead in the water, much like a weak log." This made Alboyor angry. "Leave and mate with a seal." Chuckling at his taunt, Alboyor's neighbors finally decided to watch him cross the river mouth. They chuckled to themselves about how in nature, the unintelligent kill themselves off. Some grew sad, remembering loved ones that tried to cross the river and died there. Eventually, Alboyor went towards the water. To his surprise, he wasn't even swimming. He was walking across the river. Everyone stood in shock, too stunned to applaud. After a long wait, Alboyor made it back. His neighbors stared at him. Alboyor stood silent, then to taunt them more, he adjusted his earring, put a shell under his lip, and smiled. He then walked off, realizing that with this power, he could become a spirit. Alboyor remembered the stories about the land and the Latara eternally fighting. He thought that to become a spirit, he would have to fight the Latara, and eventually slay it. Visions filled his mind. He saw himself holding the bloody head of the eagle of terror, standing triumphant with everyone praising him. These thoughts put him to sleep. In the morning, he walked over to the top of the hills and faced the Latara. Beating a cowskin drum, he invited the Latara and bowed at it. The Latara didn't appreciate it and tried to strike Alboyor immediately. The two fought for a long while. Alboyor had determination and kept telling himself to not give up. Ten days passed. Alboyor felt himself becoming a spirit, then the Latara suddenly struck from behind and slashed his neck with its Talons. Loud groans and moans exited Alboyor. "Is this... death?" The world grew quieter, and his last vision was the colorful eagle staring at him with no emotion. He then became a great waterfall, which flowed into the Siluk river and went out to sea.[12]

Classical Matorians

Gargolians

Despite the Gargolians going extinct, they left behind several cultural remnants, including stones reading of their mostly unknown language.

Relations

Kelais

  • Zhoma | Juoma (Partner) - Zhoma often sends port/land products that can't be found in Cynetia. Zhoma is Cynetia's largest trading partner in Kelais. Common exports include local fish and metal.
  • Mastistan | Masafel (Ally) - Cynetia has generally good relations with Mastistan, despite past tensions and wars. Mastistan is a good trading partner with Cynetia.
  • Anglia | Anglia (Ally) - Cynetia had mostly got over their past relations, which used to be rather negative, and ever since Anglia laid off colonialization and takeover, they have generally good relations and are good trading partners.
  • Bolstine | Bolstene (Trustable) - Cynetia mostly approves the current government and often exports items to Bolstine. The country believes they have a "cultural connection" due to the Cynetian population living inside and the Cynetian language mildly influencing Bolster.
  • Habindyenda | Habinden (Trustable) - Cynetia and Habindyenda don't agree much in terms of politics, but they generally see each other as trustable countries, and trade often.
  • Moroku | Narschtish (Mildly Trustable) - Cynetia has slight suspicions of Moroku, especially considering their past dictatorship, but generally see each other as alright.
  • Kelovia | Kelovia (Major Opponent) - The Cynetian government has condemned Kelovia's dictatorship several times in the past and "would prefer if a successful revolution took place".

Other Worlds

Cynetia has made no formal statements about countries from other worlds, and doesn't officially include them in relations, but these are hypothetical opinions they would have.

  • Grebia | Greebia (Partner) - Cynetia and Grebia would generally have good relations, and do have similarities, especially in environmental care.
  • Massenania | Massenania (Partner) - Cynetia finds Massenania very good in terms of laws and systems, and both mutually agree on the independence of Massebar.
  • Alphadonia (Aztrax) | Alphaton (Ally) - The recent fall of the monarchy raised Cynetia's opinion on Alphadonia.
  • Manchu Commune | Nancha Minchune (Ally) - Cynetia thinks the Manchu Commune's political system is perfectly fine and has a generally positive opinion on it and its laws. Has a slight concern with the population's suspicions on social democrats.(?)
  • Massebar | Massebar (Ally) - Cynetia recognizes the independence of Massebar and pushes for the removal of Sortoliyan control.
  • Uzaczar | Acuzar (Ally) - Cynetia generally agrees with the Georgist government, similar to the country's social democracy, and would like to know this country a little better.
  • Mawbol | Mybol (Trustable) - Cynetia is minorly concerned regarding some aspects of the government, though generally trusts it.
  • Dog island | Hund Isla (Mildly Trustable) - Hopefully they won't genocide any more cats.
  • Zemeorilia | Azemitia (Mildly Trustable) - Cynetia thinks this country seems rather annoying. Somewhat trustable, otherwise. But far too religious.
  • Sortoliya | Satorlitia (Major Opponent) - Cynetia highly dislikes this nation, but doesn't want involvement with it.
  • OK Empire | OK Minefistat (Major Opponent) - Cynetia finds this nation really funny extremely concerning, more than Sortoliya, and doesn't want involvement with it.

Population

A list of cities in Cynetia by population and population change. Population censuses are held every five years, with the last being the Cynetian 2020 Census, but since 2010, estimates have occurred for remaining years that weren't counted. These estimates are unofficially released after they're finished, but get a final revision during a census year, and are re-released officially.

Cynetia's geographical center

Quick Facts

  • Cynetia's national animal is the white-tailed deer.
  • One Crycovar = 0.02 U.S. Dollars, 0.015 pounds, and 0.017 Euro.
  • There is an unincorporated community called Candyland in the province of Wegdruck. Nearby residents complained that their kids were disappointed when they needed to do stuff in that area, and the town wasn't made of candy. There were multiple failed proposals to rename Candyland in 2007, 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2020.
  • Cynetia's hottest temperature was in Alanera (July 15, 1936) and Beltchain (June 28, 1998) (118ºF, 48ºC). Cynetia's coldest temperature was in Taxí (December 22, 1942) (-38ºF, -39ºC).
  • The geographical center of Cynetia is in far-northeastern Riverton, just near the borders with Drivore and Borista.
  • Cynetia uses 24-hour time.
  • Cynetia has the highest irreligious rate in Kelais, with 77.86% of the population not believing in a religion.
  • There is a little town called Cynetia City in Duoria. Established on June 15th, 1966, it was expected to be a bustling metropolis. It was started with a street layout shaped like Cynetia's flag, which is where the project was abandoned. They haven't expanded too much since. It is located about eight miles north of Plato.
  • There is an unincorporated community called "Balls" in Coteran.[13]
  • In Duoria, there is a town formerly called "Sookabeeta." It was named by settlers who heard a Cynetian yell "succa bitta," and thought it sounded interesting. This term means "fucker bitch." The town was renamed to "Dulyville" in 1947.
  • "The Town of the Twelve Tribes of Zhoma's Native Groups, and the Morukan Generals Living Space, Known by the Name of the Holy City of the Holy Space of the Holy Independent Zhomese City State of Bailom, Named after Bill Cuttamen of the Holy Town of Balamarecshe, and the Holy Lands of the Greatest City on Earth and It's People" is a community located in Bari, Cynetia, and was founded in 1958. It was named that by its founder, Goregich Cozman, who wanted to mess around with local maps of the surrounding area by forcing all map makers to include the full name of his community. This was one of the cases, along with Sookabeeta, that started the "town naming rule" in 1961, In 1961, the community was renamed to "Holylands," but residents still often use the full name.[14]
  • The Republic of Nuts was a unrecognized micro-state in Riftur that existed from 1892 to 1901, and consisted of the small community of "Nuts" and the small community of "I am not giving this a proper name". It was founded by a Cynetian millionaire named Jackson Fenti who got bored one day. It was ended after he died, as the state's "senate" voted to rejoin Cynetia. In 1903, "Nuts" was renamed to "Balia" to "comply with younger Cynetians." Balia is now a town with 3,412 people. A survey held in 2010 showed that 33% of Balians did not know about the Republic of Nuts.[15]
  • Cynetia's national colors are dark green and gold.
  • Ria Pita once attempted to start a special rewards system back in 2011 if you went to every location in your province (or a bordering/nearby province if there was none in yours). This was quickly shut down after Bari, Forales, Riftur, and Saltio residents exploited this, as they have one location.
  • Cynetia's countryball has no specific gender, but can be portrayed as either. Cynetia was originally going to be a female countryball, but -ACheesyNameHere- didn't like the look. Later, he decided it just wouldn't have a true gender.
